Welcome to Second Grade

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

Dear Parents/Caregivers and Students:

Welcome to all second grade students for the school year 2009-2010. We are very excited about summer vacation and the upcoming school year.

Summer Activities

· Students received spiral notebooks from the second grade teachers on Tuesday of this week to use over the summer. Please encourage your child to write one-half to one page (skipping lines) on a daily basis. The topics could relate to the child’s daily activities, original stories, poems or letters.
· Students are to read daily. Please utilize the wonderful children’s literature at local libraries and book stories. The Chicago Public Schools Summer Reading list will be sent home with your child’s report card.
· Students should practice skip counting by 2s, 5s, 10s, 25s and 50s to 300. In addition, students can review skills in their Everyday Math Journals 1 and 2. Please check the Everyday Math website for additional information.
· Check out the FOSS website at http://www.fossweb.com/modulesK-2/index.html for interactive games in science.
